How to handle demotivation

During the Storming phase, the initial enthusiasm for the job might fade as the first difficulties arise. A lack of motivation within the team can be noticed by certain signals, such as:
- the assigned jobs weren't carried out;
- few people attend the meetings or many delay;
- there is a low level of energy during the meetings, and the members are distracted by their mobile phones or laptops;
- the attention of the team members is on their own function, rather than on the multifunctional team; "solo thinking".
All modern research state that it is impossible to ‘motivate’ a person or a team, because motivation is, by definition, a condition that can only arise inside an individual.
So the team leader has to verify whether the current context is still functional. The team leader has to:
- verify that the expectations of the leader on the involvement are shared by everyone;
- ask the reason behind the lack of involvement;
- ascertain whether everyone is carrying out an activity fit for them.
