There are still bosses who think that some “healthy competition” within the team helps the individual to perform better. At an individual level this approach can increase the pressure and increase productiveness (on the short run). However, this belief ends up to be highly counterproductive on the team performance: it lowers the trust between the team members; as a consequence , important information isn’t shared, and communicating gets harder and harder. The potential for internal conflicts increases and takes away the energy that might be used for the pursuing of the common objective.

→ There is no need for the team members to become friends in order to optimize the team performance, but they shouldn't be enemies either. Trust and mutual respect are at the base of a successful team.
