Sometimes you might hear that: this team lacks cohesion; it is not united enough. What is cohesion, and what is it for?
There are two different types of cohesion:
- Social-emotional cohesion - It is the sense of unity which develops when individuals gain emotive satisfaction from the participation in group activities.
- Instrumental cohesion - It is the sense of unity which develops when the members are bound to each other with mutual dependency because they don't think they would be able to pursue the group objective on their own.
Both kinds of cohesion have a positive impact on creating a productive working group.
