In a country where corruption is endemic and represents a structural problem. A three-months internship at an NGO.
  • Ep.1: Personal aspect vs easy misunderstanding.
  • Ep.2: Well defined scope and methodology of research vs absence of agreement on them.

Geronimo thought that he could handle this problem by himself.

However, his fellow roommates convinced him to call both the Head of the local NGO and the guide who walked him around in the village where he was staying.

Both these people explained to Geronimo that the only way to get rid of the ‘secret agent’ was paying a small bribe.

And that is what Geronimo did.

After all – he thought - he was a wealthy European boy and, therefore, an easy source for money.

Several weeks went by, and Geronimo noticed the presence of the ‘secret agent’.

He was followed in a visible manner.

He was also threatened to be arrested if he had not paid additional money.

He was also told that his relatives in Italy could have sent some money.

In other words, Geronimo received confirmation about the fact that the ‘secret agent’ was constantly following his movements within the local village.

Hence, Geronimo decided to speak again with the Head of the NGO and was advised not to pay the ‘secret agent’ once more.

At the end of the agreed period for his internship, Geronimo left his Host Country and travelled safely back to Italy.
