Regular flu vs severe tropical desease. |
Hardik was dismissed from the hospital on September, 23 in condition of good health. Also his daughter recovered perfectly from Dengue Virus disease.
Principal symptoms generally are: fever, headache, muscle and joint pain and the characteristic exanthem similar to that of measles.
In a small percentage of cases haemorrhagic fever develops, with thrombocytopenia, such as lack of platelets, bleeding and fluid loss. This symptoms could turn into circulatory shock and death.
Moreover, Dengue Virus is potentially highly contagious since tiger mosquitoes can transmit it from human-to-human, by biting someone who has contracted the disease, and then someone else. For this reason, disinfestation maneuvers need to be performed in order to reduce the possibility of transmission through tiger mosquitoes that has fed on contaminated blood. Another important prophylactic measure is to isolate infected subjects.
The infected family of our case-study was isolated during the contagious period and maneuvers of disinfestation were performed against tiger mosquitoes of adjacent homes up to 300 mt away far from Hardik home.
This specific preventive measures started as soon as the Local Public Health Authority received notification of this infectious spreading risk, with opening of Alert Protocol.
