Regular flu vs severe tropical desease. |
Knowing about endemic diseases present in the geographical area he visited, doctors started to ask Hardik which kind of precautions he has taken to prevent himself from contracting any disease, in particular if he has paid attention to mosquitoes bites.
Hardik said to have occasionally used mosquitoes repellent solutions, only as a precaution, and to not have paid attention to any bite. His behavior was the same of the rest of the other members of the family, who were perfectly fine.
On September 18, doctors decided that blood sampling was to be performed, and it revealed positivity for infection by Dengue Virus. This is a disease transmitted by mosquitoes bites, with clinical manifestations perfectly compatible with Hardik symptoms. Since his family travelled with him, presence of Dengue Virus was also screened in the rest of the family. Also the daughter resulted positive, referring fever and wheezing for two days before blood sampling. At the time of visiting, she presented skin rash and asthenia.
