Some of the activities proposed by Azra and her team to students in the first part of the semester:

  • look into the problems of the refugee camp itself and do researches
  • look into design and art works done by other designers and artists on similar issues
  • read in sociology, international policies, humanitarian aid
  • experiment in the campus using technologies accessible in the camp
  • find on campus arabic speaking people in order to have support for the communication.

The second part was in the field, in Jordan:

  • the first week was around the sorroundings, to get familiar with climate, culture, policy, environment, etc.
  • then students met refugees and made workshops with them.

The third phase was related to:

  • the post production of the videos recorded duringc and after the workshops with the refugees in the camp
  • the prototyping of the ideas coming from the workshops, taking into account the limitations of the camp but talking about the problems through the objects themselves.

The role of the teacher was changing accoding to the needs of the group while participants were working. Azra says she had to change hat many times during the different phases of the course.
