Act as an urban forester
Now you have a better understanding of how forests grown within current cities. Probably you’ve never stopped to think about the evolution of parks and the strict co-evolution with the urban context.
Sometimes cities still have remnant forest vegetation that dates back hundreds of years. Or maybe there are historical parks that were established a long time ago, for example by the nobility for their own private use. In the latter case, these historical parks and gardens were often opened to the public during the 19th century, but we can still see signs of their original function, such as ornaments and buildings, traditional garden elements, and the like.

Having in mind your city or a city in the surroundings, focus on the following questions:
- Do you know what the oldest parts of your city’s urban forests are?
- What do you think their origins are?
- Has their use changed over time?
