According to the Vygotzky model (which was developed at the beginning of the 30ies, in last century), The Zone Of Proximal Development (ZPD) is the distance between a student’s ability to perform a task under teacher guidance and/or with peer collaboration, and the student’s ability of solving the problem independently. The Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) is where learning occurs, according to Vygotsky. But, what is it? It is the distance between a student’s ability to perform a task autonomously (independently) and a student’s ability to perform a task under teacher’s guidance and/or with peer collaboration.
