As stated in UNESCO’s official website, “The Recommendation on OER, adopted by UNESCO’s General Conference at its 40th session on 25 November 2019, is the first international normative instrument to embrace the field of openly licensed educational materials and technologies in education.”

Sometimes, official documents might seem to be too general or too broad when we read them for the first time. It might happen that we feel like they can’t actually help us better understand how to comply, how to act accordingly, and how to implement what they require to advance our work as a community of practitioners. In the case of the UNESCO OER Recommendation, many worldwide experts came together to support the writing process using a language that is as simple, brief and clear as possible.

We will analyse each Action Area in the following lessons, but, after your first read of the document, do you feel like you know in which action areas you can actively get engaged?
