WHAT?
- Title: Together. An open collaborative picture book project.
- Description: A dynamic and collaborative open textbook created in February 2022 by students and lecturers from five universities and two colleges in Ontario, Canada. It goes beyond traditional textbooks, incorporating multimedia elements like a musical playlist and graphics.
WHO?
- Authors: The GO-GN (Global OER Graduate Network) picture book team. Open Education practitioners (teachers, researchers, instructional designers, students, graphic designers) from different regions.
- Collaborators: Open Education practitioners worldwide.
WHY?
- Open creative design process: the narrative was crafted and visually depicted by a diverse group of individuals hailing from various corners of the globe, collaborating online for a span of six months during the COVID-19 pandemic. They received assistance from numerous educators worldwide who generously shared their ideas, and the characters in the story were born from these collective contributions.
- Diversity, equity and inclusion at the core: all authors share a common commitment to fostering a socially just world, advocating for accessible education for everyone. Core values such as sharing, collaboration, and aiding others lie at the heart of open education, aligning with the pursuit of the UN’s Global Sustainable Development Goal 4, "Quality Education for All."
- Openness, reuse, repurpose: the illustrations in the picture book are a remix of details of exhibits from the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, available under CC0 and new illustrations created for the purpose of this project. Released under the CC BY NC license, Together promotes the reuse, adaptability, and sharing of educational materials.
- Winner of the OE Award of Excellence for Open Innovation.
