In the previous lesson, we explored the UNESCO Recommendations Action Matrix, using our adapted version of Rolfe’s reflective model to explore answers to the “Now what?” question. In 2024, UNESCO reused and adapted the Action Matrix providing the global community with Guidelines for each Action Area to support the implementation of the OER Recommendation further.

We invite you to take some time to explore the five guiding documents that can help you and your institution, organisation and work team progress further on your “Now what?” action plan:

  • Now what? – identify what you and your institution, organisation, and/or work team can/need to do in the future to improve open education future outcomes and impact. Then, reflect on what you foresee/can influence/can enact at the governmental level to facilitate actions to implement the Recommendation.

Here are direct links to all the Guidelines, available under a CC BY SA 3.0 IGO licence:

It will take some time to look at these documents and let them sink into your reflections and into your practice.

We suggest to downloading and keeping them handy, so you can consult them from time to time, according to contextual opportunities and challenges.

Now it’s time to consider adding to your last forum post on “Now what?” with additional comments on the actions you can consider taking in the next few months in the context you are located. This time, take this opportunity to think big: consider what you want to see happen in the near future in your context, even if your first step might be small anyway. Which actions can be started now to ignite implementation actions that can flourish in the near future? Which is the nearest you can foresee today? You can consider keeping a copy of your reflections in the calendar and go back to them in a year from now, to see what happened and what can be ameliorated.
