The Industry 4.0 initiative highlights Augmented Reality (AR) as a key technology for enhancing maintenance services. Despite previous technological limitations, some challenges have been addressed while others remain unresolved.
The paper “Supporting Remote Maintenance in Industry 4.0 through Augmented Reality” presents a solution for remote maintenance using off-the-shelf mobile and AR technologies. The application connects a skilled operator in a control room with an unskilled operator on-site. The paper details the new features  - improved based on industrial partner feedback - that enhance remote communication effectiveness.
