Metacognition is described as the ability to reflect on our mental representations in order to understand and manage cognitive processes and optimize learning (Goupil & Kouider, 2019). It refers to an individual's awareness and understanding of how they perceive, remember, think, and act based on what they know or have previously learned (Metcalfe & Shimamura, 1994). Encouraging metacognition means fostering self-observation skills and the continuous improvement of learning strategies.
