As we have seen, the key components of the metacognition process identified in Nelson and Narens’ 1990 framework are two: monitoring, which is the observation and collection of information about what has been learned and the level achieved, stimulating the reflection process; and control, which is how the information gathered through monitoring and reflection “guides” subsequent behaviors.

What practical strategies (quizzes, discussions, etc.) can we use to support effective monitoring (and reflection), control, and modification of learning processes?

Below is an image of a concept map collaboratively created by students within the course “Teaching Methodologies, Strategies and Styles” (Susanna Sancassani) at the PhD School of Politecnico di Milano.
Students were asked to create a map representing the content covered during part of the educational path and learned through high-interactivity content collection events.
