Overview of debonding on demand technologies
With the increasing regulatory pressure and struggle to limit climate change, goods manufacturers are forced to work on the design of their products and foster higher reuse or recycling at the end of life. For bonded assemblies, a very limited mass of material (the adhesive) is a roadblock for easy reuse of most of the assembly mass (the substrates), due to lack of reversibility of the joining technique. Thus, there is a need to develop new technologies for the release, upon external triggering, of bonded assemblies. These new adhesives or bonding systems, embedding debonding on demand capability, are enablers for recycling or reuse of multimaterials.
This course will cover the main strategies, to date, used for debonding on demand technologies, with some examples from patents and scientific articles.
