Performance assessment
This method can be used when you want to evaluate students’ achievement through observation of their performances during a real-life context (such as simulations, laboratory exercises, or hands-on field work). List the skills and knowledge you wish your students to learn after completing each task. In order to be authentic, they should be similar to those that are faced by professionals in their daily lives and work. Then, design a performance task which requires the students to demonstrate these skills and knowledge. The performance tasks should motivate students. They also should be challenging, yet achievable. Finally, you need to define in advance the performance criteria which measure the extent to which students have mastered the skills and knowledge.
