Practical assessment
Health and medical sciences practicums
This will usually be conducted in a timed and realistic environment where you will be asked to demonstrate your skills and knowledge in responding to specific scenarios. It may be timed and based on a real-life or simulated scenario. These types of assignments allow you to demonstrate your deep knowledge of the topic and your response times and attitude when completing the assignment and understanding the whole context of the problem you are responding to.
PERFORMANCE
If you are studying the performing arts, you might be required to deliver a performance of your skill of choice. This might be witnessed by your teachers and tutors, your class, or even as a public event. It will give you a chance to show your knowledge of your discipline and your performance skills, as well as other skills depending on what you are performing.
SIMULATIONS
These can be used in many fields where students have to demonstrate how they respond to particular situations which they will have to manage in their profession, such as managing machinery, transport and technical expertise. These might be online or digital simulations or done at a real place of work. Demonstration of specific and real-world knowledge is key in these assessments.
LABORATORY TEST
Similar to simulations, these might test a student's knowledge of being able to identify and use tools and techniques in a laboratory. For example, using chemicals to produce reactions or elements being tested. Or in data laboratories, demonstrating to examiners how they would use the digital tools to respond to questions and use different methods to answer the query posed. This will also show how you can respond to detailed and specific instructions. This might also be combined with a written report where you have to detail exactly how you performed the experiment or test.
