Sanitization is a process of decontamination able to reduce the overall pathogenic microbes on a surface. Disinfection is a process that eliminates many or all pathogenic microorganisms, except bacterial spores, on inanimate objects. Pasteurization is a process able to destroy pathogenic organisms, except spores, in liquid foods. Sterilization describes a process that destroys or eliminates all forms of microbial life.
