Hydrocyclone optimization for the removal of impurities in biowaste co-digestion processes

First studies were carried out to determine optimization potential in designing hydrocyclones for this application in wastewater treatment plants. Therefore, optimized geometrical (see Fig. 1) and operational parameters were investigated in more than 500 experiments between 2014 and 2019.

Nowadays, the research is being focused on the prediction of wear in viscoelastic fracturing fluids and other complex multiphase flow in oil and gas industry. To this aim, the effect of fluid elastic on the proppants transportation and the synergistic of corrosion and erosion in the multiphase flow will be considered in our future research.

Current research activities are on exploring new applications of hydroyclone systems (e.g. construction site wastewater, snowmaking systems) with a strong focus on on-site testing combined with laboratory experiments, flow measurements and CDF simulations.
