Guaranteeing universal access to quality education is the key message of SDG4. This lecture introduces the concept and scopes of Open Knowledge Education and the role of universities in rethinking the production and consumption of knowledge according to the “third mission” principle. Sharing knowledge to a wider audience, beyond traditional higher education curricula, is a terrific opportunity to innovate forms of literacy and increase societal engagement.
Moreover, open knowledge offers the opportunity to address diversity, ageing, disability… all this is possible, but it requires overcoming cultural barriers, accelerating creativity and co-building original ideas for remodeling the education eco-system!
