A

ABC Approach

Ableism

A form of discrimination and prejudice against people with disabilities based on the assumption that “typical” abilities are superior.

Abuse

Misuse of power. Abuse prevents persons from making free decisions and forces them to behave against their will.

Active bystander

A person who decides to speak up in the face of poor behavior to make a difference. An active bystander is someone trained to notice the situation, recognize the poor behavior, evaluate the options, and choose the right way to act and which strategy to apply, keeping personal safety as a priority. They play a proactive role in promoting safety and preventing harm.

Ally

In general terms is a person who is not a member of a marginalized or mistreated group but who expresses or gives support to that group. In the specific context of sexual harassment and abuse is a person who support, listen, empathize and help a victim-survivor of sexual harassment and abuse. It includes activism.

B

Bias

For our brain biases are a mental shortcut to get problem solved as quickly as possible. While conscious thinking requires significant cognitive effort, which is why it is activated only when it is strictly necessary biases, on the contrary act very quickly by processing information unconsciously, storing it automatically and instinctively in those categories that we created during our lives as a consequence of our personal experience and culture.

Biological sex

Assigned at birth, it labels us as "male" or "female," shaping the societal framework within which we live.

Biphobia

Irrational fear of, and aversion to, bisexuality or bisexual persons. (source)

Catcalling

A form of street harassment. Unwanted sexual comments, gestures, whistles that make the person uncomfortable.

Catfishing

Involves the creation of fake online personas or identities to deceive, manipulate, or defraud individuals on social media, dating platforms, or chat rooms. Perpetrators engage in catfishing to establish false relationships, extract personal information, or perpetrate romance scams, exploiting the victim's trust and emotional vulnerabilities.
