Is metacognition a green soft skill?
It is clear that we can consider Green Soft Skills all those competencies that enable us to understand and assimilate the problematic situations that hinder the green transition and to implement meaningful, effective, useful actions that implement “significant changes in individual behaviours and consumption choices, alongside the reorganisation and regulation of production processes” (OECD (2023), "Skills and attitudes for new information landscapes", in OECD Skills Outlook 2023: Skills for a Resilient Green and Digital Transition, OECD Publishing, Paris, Skills and attitudes for new information landscapes.)
Metacognition represents self-regulation, self-monitoring, and self-assessment ability that is indispensable for thinking and acting in favor of sustainable development: the rapid change that characterises our society requires us to continue learning, then metacognition is a key competence and a baseplate for developing the other Green Skills, both hard and soft.
