The university of Connecticut lists Five common instructional practices that have been cited as effective in helping students learn self-regulation. This list can be used as a starting point to stimulate a reflection about ”What can I do concretely during my course to train students to be better self-regulated learners?
While you reflect on these hints, here below you can find some didactical activities you can implement in your class.
- Previous Knowledge test - is a method of retrieval practice aimed at recalling information from memory to see how prior knowledge, experiences, or feedback can help to afford the new situation (10/15 minutes depending on the questions proposed)
- Exit card - is a self-reflection technique to think about the learning process (10/20 minutes depending on the commenting session)
- Reading reflections - Students are asked to summarize the content of the reading, they are asked to describe what is new or interesting, and they are asked to identify those parts of the reading that are confusing (10/30 minutes students work replying questions).
- Exam wrapper - It can help students see past their grades and reflect on their exam preparation and performance (10/20 minutes depending on the commenting session)
