A new attitude
It can happen that we initially perceive a change very negatively and only subsequently we do realize that the new situation also means an opportunity to make a change for the positive in our lives.
Take for example some film clips from the movie “Bread and Tulips”.
Sivio Soldini’s movie from 2000 tells the story of people who experience and deal with several changes. It’s a funny, yet delicate film, which will help us to read and highlight the different ways of dealing with change.
LET'S SEE AN EXAMPLE
Rosalba misses the bus which she was travelling in with her husband. Following his reproach, she decides to do something new: visit Venice alone. The situation, which started as a tourist visit, soon turns into a new experience.
Description of the scene: the bus stops at a gas station, but Rosalba isn’t back in time and her family goes away without her. In the beginning she feels completely lost and abandoned (She perceives the change very negatively), but then she decides to react; she doesn’t wait for the bus that was coming back to the gas station to pick her up and, after hitchhiking, she asks the driver to drive her to Venezia. On the way, her expression changed completely, because she realizes that this experience can turn her life around.
Bread and Tulips, S. Soldini, 2000, Istituto Luce (00:05:00 - 00-12:00).
How does she experience the situation? How does she behave?
After the first scare, anger allows her to take the opportunities hidden in the negative events.
