Here are two clips from the movie "Ratatouille", an excellent example of successful change (even if it’s “against nature”, or maybe not...)

Plot
Rémy, a small rat, lives near Paris and contrary to his peers, has a very refined sense of smell and taste, stopping him from wanting to eat rubbish. His dream is to become a chef. Rémy's father, Django, is horrified by the idea that his son wants to hang around with human beings and does not want to adapt to the "normal" life of a rat.

Listen to the interesting dialogue between father and son by clicking at this link and think: what change management "skills" does Rémy show?

Ratatouille, B. Bird, USA, 2007, Buena Vista Pictures (00:50:01 - 00:53:07).

ANALYSIS OF THE SCENE

Below, the change management skills that Rémy shows.

  • Awareness/internal Locus of Control: we influence the context in which we live, change comes from of our decisions.
  • Openness to new things: not looking back and regretting what you lose, but going “forward, with a little of luck...”
  • Flexibility: Rémy challenges his father’s paradigm, who says that mice and humans cannot be friends.
