Self-awareness means seeing, observing and being aware of the thoughts and feelings that we create.
To acquire this awareness, we need to work on ourselves, reflecting on our actions and behaviours. It is an indispensable part of any learning process.
- A regular practice of mindfulness supports this process. Mindfulness is a meditative practice, which is not spiritual nor religious, that allows you to experience yourself and your surrounding context in a fully conscious and aware manner.
“Paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally.”
(Jon Kabat-Zinn) - Self-analysis does not cost any money and seems to be the most immediate step (after all, who knows us better than ourselves?), but it has a major limitation: like the perception of others towards us, our self perception still represents a partial view, in addition to being subject to potential distortions.
- A path of awareness taken with a professional coach can be a valuable intervention that produces profound changes in a situation in which people sometimes find themselves imprisoned.
