As you may have already read, flexibility is necessary to deal with change in a positive way, meaning the ability to develop a "beginner's mind". Here is a well-known Zen story that will help you reflect on the subject...
Nan-in, a Japanese master from the Meiji era (1868-1912) was visited by a university professor, who had come to him to inquire about Zen.
Nan-in served him tea.
He filled his guest’s cup, and then kept on pouring.
The professor watched the overflow until he could restrain himself no longer: "Stop! The cup is over-full, no more will go in."
Nan-in said: "Like this cup, you are full of your own opinions and speculations. How can I show you Zen unless you first empty your cup."
