The case study you viewed is taken from a real situation that reached a very high level of escalation, and in the end was ‘resolved’ with the help of a professional mediator.

In talks with the mediator it emerged that neither of them were really interested in the desk; the interest in the object itself was not strong enough to justify a fight of this intensity. In truth, both were focused on “not giving in” to the other.

The “resolution” was the sale of the desk on eBay and an equal split of the profit.
