The layers of identy which have the biggest impact in my classes are the presence of several different nationalities, all with their own cultural backgrounds and also gender. When possible I let them work in mixed gender and/or multicultural groups or pairs and appoint one of the other nationalities and/or a female, as the pair/group's spokesperson. I'm keen on using culturally inclusive material.
