The majority of people do not find it hard to deal with changes that arise from their own initiative, rather than manage changes that have been externally imposed.
- What could be the possible causes?
- Based on your reflections, what does this mean in general for effective management of change?
Responses
- One explanation is related to the so-called ‘Locus of Control’. When a person has an internal LoC, they are convinced of being the only architect of their own destiny, able to influence context and events. This conviction allows them to deal with change in a more proactive and purposeful way, consequently increasing the chance to handling the change process successfully.
- For organizations, this means making people participate in the change process. For the individual, it means increasing awareness of not being a passive victim in the change process, having and always having a choice.
