Technical changes and adaptive changes
Technical changes and adaptive changes five major changes in your personal life.
- Which of these changes would you define as technical changes?
- Which are adaptive changes?
- What elements made you think that it was a technical rather than adaptive change?
Example Response
Moving house without moving city can be a major, demanding change; despite this, the move will not generally impact your personality or way of seeing things. Moving house moving to another country or another city, however, may imply an adaptive/transformational change, because you have to deal with a different culture, calling your worldview and original values into question.
Changing workplace can be a technical change, as it does not necessarily mean learning new approaches or professional skills. If the new job is also in a new sector or linked to a new profession (e.g. A state employee decides to go it alone and open a shop) then the person must learn to relate to others and to evaluate professional situations in a profoundly different way. A radical professional change often goes beyond the simple learning of new technical skills, but it requires a transformation in mental approach.
